Citizen-responds-active-shooter. I have a very simple answer for you and to everyone else in this type of case. In case a citizen responds to an active shooter with his concealed weapon what’s the chance he’ll be shot by responding officers?. If you are a bystander who happens to be armed and an incident with an armed shooter breaks out, then you can act, but only if it’s safe to do so. Police, when they arrive, will not just hop out of the patrol vehicle and start shooting. They are highly trained to quickly assess the situation and safely take control.
If the shooter is neutralized then they quickly comply, if not, then drop your weapon if it’s safe to do so and leave the situation to the police. When you completely comply with the orders from the officer(s), then the likely hood of you being “shot” by the police is only slim. Just listen to their orders completely, carefully and comply. They WILL take you into custody and they probably WILL slap the cuffs on you. That doesn’t mean you will be placed under arrest. It just means that they need to figure out what’s going on and who all the players are.
You can at that time can explain your side of the situation to them or answer their questions, but if you are concerned, then by all means request an attorney be present. The police aren’t interested in arresting a person who is responding to someone protecting themselves or responding to the aid of others. They only want to deal with the degenerates of our society.
